First of all, what is Plex?
Plex is a free app that lets you organize and stream your own movies, shows, music, and photos. Instead of relying on Netflix or Hulu, Plex lets you build your own personal streaming service. You add your media files to Plex, and it turns them into a beautiful library with posters, descriptions, and categories. You can watch your content on your TV, phone, tablet, or computer—anytime, anywhere

Access to your content on TVs, phones, tablets, and computers.
How Plex Works
When you open Plex and see all the posters for movies or shows, those posters are connected to the actual files stored on the Plex server. When you click on a poster and press the play button, Plex sends a request to the server. The server finds the file, prepares it so it can play smoothly on your device, and then streams it directly to you. From your perspective, it feels just like Netflix or Hulu—you click play, and the video starts right away.

Smooth streaming, even if your internet or device needs the video adjusted.
A viewing experience that feels just like Netflix or Hulu, but powered by your own server.
Why Do We Need Plex?
Paul’s Plex Media Server gives you your own personal streaming service. Instead of relying on apps that remove shows or charge monthly fees, you get a library that is always available. When you log in, you’ll see posters and details for movies, shows, and music, just like Netflix. You click play, and the server streams it directly to you.
